The Benefits Of Lavender Oil In The Barn

Updated: Dec 30, 2021

As one of the most versatile oils in nature, lavender is perfect for your horse!

Essential oils have been utilized by cultures around the world for thousands of years. As one of the more popular oils discovered, lavender extracts have been known to have amazing healing properties. Many horse owners are awakening to the numerous benefits that this plant can have at the barn. Lavender is usually applied topically or aromatically. The oil absorbs into the skin and quickly enters the bloodstream. This allows for an almost immediate effect. It can also be inhaled to support emotional health. Equestrians should only purchase 100% therapeutic-grade essential oils. When using with your horse, you can dab the oil on the affected area, the chest for inhalation, or the poll. Begin by wrapping your hand around the bottle with the lid off. Extend the oil to your horse and allow him to sniff. Examine whether he is interested or turns his head away. If he turns away, he may not prefer that oil. If he’s receptive and inquisitive, try using the oil.

Benefits

  • Soothes tired or overworked muscles

  • Reduces anxiety and stress

Lavender is considered gentle and safe. It is recommended to consult a veterinarian if your horse is pregnant or before giving any essential oil internally. With its anti-bacterial, antibiotic, and antiseptic properties, it’s amazing to have around the barn. It’s a great alternative for horses that have high anxiety during training, traveling, or general handling. Try some for you and your horse!
