Try using lavender oil for headache relief... all-natural and effective relief for painful headache symptoms.
Home remedies for a headache using lavender oil
Most of us suffer from headaches – some of us more often than others. Headache pain varies between individuals, with some pain being described as mild, intense or throbbing. If your headache is accompanied by nausea and sensitivity to light and smell you may even be suffering from a migraine, usually caused by constricted blood vessels in the head.
Stress, sickness, hunger, fatigue and allergies are just some of the causes of a headache. Tight muscles in the neck and head region can intensify a headache. While over-the-counter medications can provide relief from your symptoms, using lavender oil to treat a headache might be an alternative for your long-term health.
Is lavender oil good for treating headaches?
Because lavender has a high percentage of esters (linalyl acetate) it offers both anti-inflammatory and sedative properties, making it especially good to use if you’re trying to relieve headache symptoms during the night time hours.
Sometimes if our headaches are caused by stress, simple relaxation is the key to loosening tight neck and head muscles that are most likely causing your headache.
One can use an electric oil burner whenever trying to relieve headache pain. Simply top an oil burner with water, add at least 8-10 drops of lavender oil and deeply inhale while closing your eyes. Also combining this with a cold lavender mask compress on the back of your neck and in about 10-15 minutes you will be feeling much better.
If your headache is more severe and has turned into a migraine, go and lie down in a darkened room with an oil burner prepared with lavender oil close beside you, breathing deep and relaxing your body for at least half an hour.
It’s not always easy to treat a headache when you’re busy or on the go (especially with kids!), so try a lavender eye mask compress. Compresses can be used either cold or warmed then drape it across your forehead or back of neck - wherever you need relief the most.
Using a lavender oil misting spray to treat headaches
You can use a lavender oil misting spray about your room and house.
Spray on or near pillows, in the bathroom or around the office if you have to keep working. This is also great to keep in your handbag to be used on the go and in the car.
If you don’t have misting spray you can always add 2-3 drops of lavender oil onto a cotton ball or tissue. Place it near your nose and inhale deeply for relief of headache symptoms. If you’re new to using lavender oil, use only 1 drop to ensure that you’re not overly sensitive to the oil.
